You’ve probably heard of Aztec clay, it’s been trending for quite awhile, now you may be wondering what’s all the hype about? Aztec clay is very effective and I think why it’s so popular is because of the amount of benefits it has for the price! It’s a great bang for your buck!
Although it’s uncommon to be allergic to bentonite clay it’s better to be safe. Start by applying a little bit of the clay onto your skin and wash it off, wait 24 hours and if nothing happens you are good. If you see any itchiness, redness, or irritation discontinue use. Also please be cautious if you have a sensitive scalp.
What Is Aztec Clay?
Aztec clay goes back for centuries. It is made from natural bentonite clay. It’s a mud-like substance made from volcanic ash. Bentonite is known for it’s ability to be able to remove all sorts of oils, dirts, and in result preventing acne.

What Was Your Experience?
I love Aztec Clay. I have sensitive, combination skin so sometimes it can be hard to find a product that actually works for my skin without breaking out. I have been using it for about four years and it’s helped my skin a lot. After I take off the mask my skin is glowing and very soft! I haven’t used it on my hair, but here’s a good YouTube video I found where the person shares their experience:
Ingredients For Face Mask:
- 1/4 cup of aztec clay
- 1/4 cup of water
- Non metal bowl
Directions For Face Mask:
- Get 1/4 cup of aztec clay
- Get 1/4 cup of water (you can also use apple cider vinegar instead of water)
- Mix it up together, (in a non metal bowl) you should end up with a paste like consistency.
- Apply the mask onto your skin and leave it on for twenty minutes.
- After 20 minutes has passed wash off the mask with a wash cloth and some warm water.
Additional things to know:
- It’s normal for for the clay to feel tight and dry when it’s drying.
- Don’t use any metal when applying or making the mask.
- You can use this once a week, no more than that.
Ingredients For Hair Mask:
- ½ cup of bentonite clay powder
- 3 to 9 tablespoons of water
- 6 tablespoons unfiltered apple cider vinegar (This is optional)
- 2-3 tablespoons of oil (coconut oil, castor oil, or sweet almond oil)
- Non metal bowl
Directions for hair mask:
- Measure your clay and put it into the bowl
- If you have decided to use the oils put them in now, and mix the oils into the powder.
- If you decided to also put in the apple cider vinegar mix that into the bowl.
- After you are all done mixing let the bowl sit for about 10-15 seconds
- Add in the amount of water you think is best for your mixture.
- Now, stir until the consistency is like greek yogurt.
- It’s now time to apply! Start with small sections and work around your hair, it’s best to do this on clean damp hair.
- Make sure to saturate all your hair, keep a spray bottle handy so it’s easier for you to work around your hair.
- Leave in for 25 minutes then wash out, making sure to remove all the clay from your hair.
- After you have washed all the clay from your hair you can continue with your shampoo and conditioner as usual.
I hope this helped you, thank you for reading!
