1. Hand Wash
Cleaning your makeup brushes can actually be very easy! It only takes a few minutes and in the end, you will have clean makeup brushes. Olive oil and dawn dish soap is the way to go!
- Mix two parts dish soap with one part olive oil. (it’s best to do this in a bowl!)
- Get your makeup brushes
- Gently swirl one makeup brush in the bowl, only use one at first to see how your makeup brush reacts! Make sure to avoid the top of the brush, it should look like a band. It’s important to not get that wet because you can risk ruining the glue holding the brush together!
- After a minute or two of swirling start to rinse all of the soap out of the brush. Take your time to ensure that you are getting all the product out. If you think you’ve gotten all the product out, double check! (With smaller makeup brushes you can bunch them but for bigger ones do them one at a time to get all the makeup out!)
- When the brushes are all clean grab a clean towel and gently pat down the brushes, and let air dry over night.
- You’re done, now you should have clean makeup brushes!
Here is the video I made on how to do this too!!
2. Makeup Brush Cleaner
Another alternative is a makeup brush cleaner! What it does is you put the makeup brush into the device and the makeup brush will get cleaned really quickly! This is a great alternative if you work or use heavy makeup a lot as it only takes a few minutes if you don’t have the times to do the first option every week! Another thing that caught my eye about this product is that it will also dry your makeup brushes, perfect if you are on the go. There are also 8 different holders meaning that it can work with a variety of sizes of makeup brushes!
Additional Things to Know
- Do this once a week to prevent bacteria from forming!
- Make sure to clean where you store the makeup brushes.
- You can also get special products that make the process easier, I will have these linked feel free to check them out if you are interested!
